Sir James Dunn
The fact that Sir James Dunn played an instrumental role in the rebirth of Wawa, is one of our little brushes with Canadian business royalty. Anyone who grew up here in the 1940's and 50's, or worked at Algoma Ore, has more than one or two colourful stories of "when Sir James came to town".
Whether it was "he sent us to go pick blueberries for a pie" or "he wanted my lake trout for his dinner", the story normally involved his demanding nature, his financial prowess and the prominent visitors to his Eagle's Nest.
And of course there is that thing about his supporters wanting to change the name of Wawa to Jamestown. Needless to say, whether the memories are good, bad or indifferent, all is not forgotten...
